Roger & Jill met in Lawrence, Kansas in the summer of 1970 and were married in Pasadena, California on March 14, 1973.

After graduating from Lawrence High in 1970, Roger spent 6 years in the Navy and 30 years at IBM before retiring in 2008. While working at IBM, he received a Bachelor of Science & Management degree with honors from Baker University. Jill, after attending Junior High school in Lawrence, moved to California and graduated high school in Pasadena, California in 1972. She went on to receive her PhD in Education from the University of Kansas and retired from the US government in 2017.

Roger & Jill lived in California, Washington, Kansas, New York, and Germany during their first 20 years together. They returned to Lawrence in 1992, where they continue to call Lawrence their home.

Family includes: son, Kevin (Angie) Powell and daughter, Julie (Brandon) Rector. Three grandchildren: Taylor, Megan and Nicole; two great grandchildren: Ryker and Kyler.
